Dr. Carlos Tamayo LaraDr. Carlos Tamayo Lara is the Environmental Manager for Barrick Gold Corporation at the Pueblo Viejo Gold mine in Dominican Republic. He is in charge of environmental compliance at this new mining operation as well as he leads the support for the environmental remediation of historical liabilities from this brownfield mining site. Carlos has more than 30 years of experience in mining, consulting business and academics. Carlos' skills and focus throughout his career include projects in civil engineering, hydrogeology, environmental management systems, remediation programs, superfund sites, hazardous wastes and biodiversity programs. He has work experience in USA, Mexico and different countries in Latin America. He is an author/co-author of several professional publications.

Carlos earned a bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Yucatan, Mexico and later earned both a master's and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering, with emphasis on environmental, surface and groundwater hydrology from Colorado State University. He also holds a Global MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona.
