Presentation Overview:

The EPA and other groups have developed a number of tools to aid with environmental issue identification, prioritization and mitigation that could be used for exposure and risk assessments performed for or by communities. This seminar presents an overview of the currently available tools, including their benefits and limitations, and current research needs. Over 70 EPA tools were assessed based on criteria developed through a survey of project officers who work directly with community groups across the nation. Results indicate that current tools are developed fairly independently of one another, and that a single tool that provides a cumulative assessment with interpretable results upon which action can be decided, would support a current research need and provide a useful tool to stakeholders and partners.

ORD and EPA's Regions are sponsoring this series of publicly accessible seminars as a forum for discussing the current state of the art and practice of Cumulative Risk Assessment (CRA). These seminars will provide information regarding guidance, resources, and recommendations for real world CRA for regulatory and non-regulatory applications. This seminar series is, in part, preparation for the EPA ORD/Regional Workshop on CRA being hosted by Region 5 in Chicago, IL for July 28-30, 2009. The seminar series is publicly open in support of advancing CRA while the workshop will primarily be internal to EPA to enhance policy and other deliberative discussions.
