Workshop on the Application of Characterization and Remediation Technologies at Fractured Bedrock Sites
Providence, RI, November 8-9, 2000

Background
On November 8 and 9, 2000, EPA held a Fractured Bedrock Workshop to exchange information on field experiences related to contaminated fractured bedrock sites, with a focus on three technical areas:

  1. Geophysical Characterization
  2. Physical and Chemical Characterization
  3. Remediation

The workshop included presentations of field experiences and discussions of major issues through panel sessions. Drafting of a workshop report is currently underway. The workshop was designed by a planning committee representing U.S. and Canadian industry, consulting, and federal and state/provincial government stakeholders. The results of this workshop will provide an overview of United States and Canadian state-of-the-practice and analyses of the technical needs for improved characterization and remediation at fractured bedrock sites.
