David Alvarez is the leader of the passive sampling development group at the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center. He received a Ph.D. for the development of the POCIS in Environmental/Analytical Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1999 under the supervision of Dr. Jim Petty and Dr. Stanley Manahan. Current interests include continued development and validation of the POCIS for pharmaceuticals and personal care products, application of the SPMD as an air sampler, combination of passive samplers with biological endpoint testing, and the design of new samplers.
