New Publications and Databases

Vendor Information System for Innovative Treatment Technologies (VISITT 6.0). The newest version of VISITT was released in February. VISITT 6.0 is a user friendly database of vendor-provided information on innovative treatment technologies. It contains cost and performance data on nearly 375 hazardous waste treatment technologies supplied by 214 vendors. Users may build unique searches based upon numerous criteria. Vendor Field Analytical and Characterization Technology System (Vendor FACTS 3.0). This updated (released in February) Windows-based system provides information on field portable technologies for measuring and monitoring contaminated soil and groundwater. The database of vendors and their specific technology application and performance information (as provided by the vendors) can be searched by media, contaminants, technologies, vendors etc. to determine appropriate technologies and their availability for a specific site need. Bioremediation Field Evaluation: Hill Air Force Base, Utah (EPA 540-R-97-505). This Office of Research and Development publication presents the findings of an evaluation conducted at Hill Air Force Base. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of airflow injection rate on the effectiveness of bioventing in stimulating biodegradation of a JP-4 spill [May 1997, 13 pages]. Natural Attenuation of Chlorinated Volatile Organic Compounds in a Freshwater Tidal Wetlands, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, (Water Resources Investigation Report 97-4171). This report was produced by the U.S. Geological Survey in coordination with the U.S. Army Garrison, Aberdeen Proving Ground. The purpose of this report is to describe the natural attenuation of VOCs in a wetland study area. Biodegradation and sorption were found to be significant natural attenuation mechanisms for dechlorination [Fall 1997, 105 pages]. Phytoremediation of TCE in Groundwater Using Populus. This report was prepared under grant for EPA by Jonathan Chappell, a National Network of Environmental Management Studies fellow. Multi-State Evaluation of the Site Characterization and Analysis Penetrometer System. This report, developed by the Interstate Technology Regulatory Cooperation (ITRC) workgroup, examines states' concerns in accepting an innovative site characterization technology, and more specifically, the SCAPS-LIF sensor technology. Based on each state's level of involvement in the technology evaluation process, they were asked to identify concerns, if any, their state would have in accepting the technology [May 1996]. Presumptive Remedy Supplemental Bulletin: Multi-phase Extraction Technology for VOCs in Soil and Groundwater (EPA 540-F-97-004). This fact sheet was issued jointly by the U.S. EPA and the Air Combat Command of the U.S. Air Force. It is a supplemental bulletin for the VOC Presumptive Remedy. It is intended to provide site managers with recent information that may be useful in making decisions about the specific type of extraction technology to employ at a VOC presumptive remedy site [April 1997, 10 pages]. Advances in Innovative Groundwater Remediation Conference, May 6, San Francisco, CA. This one day event, sponsored by the Ground Water Remediation Technologies Analysis Center (GWRTAC), will highlight recent advances in in situ groundwater remediation. The conference is open and free to all. It will highlight recent demonstrations and technology advances in areas such as phytoremediation, treatment walls, surfactants/cosolvents, and dynamic stripping/hydrous pyrolisis.
