Federal Facilities Online Academy: Federal Facility Five-Year Review

Federal Facility Five-Year Review Webinar is a two-hour webinar course that provides an overview of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) five-year reviews. By taking this course, participants will achieve the following objectives:
- Understand Five-Year Review purpose and regulatory context
- Learn how to prepare and conduct a five-year review
- Identify the information and data needed to support a protectiveness statement
- Address emerging contaminants and options available to ensure that the federal agencies address these contaminants
- Identify the different scenarios when EPA makes an independent finding of the protectiveness of the remedy
- Learn about similarities and differences between federal and private site five-year reviews
The instructional methodology for this course includes lecture, case studies, and quizzes. There will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions. The target audience for this course are federal, state, and tribal representatives who work on Federal Facility cleanups. Ideally, students should have a basic understanding the CERCLA process. This course is part of the Federal Facilities Academy training program. Please consider registering for other Federal Facility Academy courses and obtain a certificate upon completion of the entire Federal Facility Academy series (12 courses total).

Monica McEaddy works as an Environmental Engineer in the Federal Facilities Restoration and Reuse Office (FFRRO) in Washington, DC. Monica has been working in FFRRO since 1998 and is the subject matter expert on Post Construction Completion activities (including five-year reviews)and Department of Energy sites and issues. She has also worked on land disposal restriction regulations and toxic chemicals. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineer at Howard University in Washington, DC.
Jennifer (Jenn) Edwards, U.S. EPA Office of Land and Emergency Management (OLEM), Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation (OSRTI), Assessment and Remediation Division (ARD), Construction and Post Construction Branch (CPCMB) (Edwards.Jennifer@epa.gov)
Jenn works in the Superfund program at EPA where she focuses on construction and post construction management in the Superfund Remedial program, particularly as the national lead for five-year reviews and working on remedial action funding. Besides a few brief details to EPA Region 10 and to EPA Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Jenn has worked in the EPA Superfund program in OSRTI for more than 15 years. Jenn's background is in biology and environmental science.

As a Triad advocate, Mike directed the final production of the Management and Interpretation of Data Under a Triad Approach. For the Technology Innovation Program (TIP), Mike serves as POC for various issues and initiatives such as Vapor Intrusion, Decision Support Tools, and the Measurement and Monitoring Technologies for the 21st Century initiative; and is part of the CLUIN management team. Mike has graduate degrees in Plant Physiology (2000, Iowa State) and Environmental Engineering (2003, Nebraska-Lincoln), and was a staff Research Assistant in Environmental Soil Science at Nebraska-Lincoln before joining the Technology Innovation Program at the EPA in late 2004.

When done, click "Join" When it is time for the live event to start, the meeting host will admit you to the live Zoom meeting. Join via web browser (without the Zoom Application): For those joining with a web browser, you may close any pop ups prompting you to download the Zoom app. The next window will allow you to enter your name (first name and last name) and check the box that you are not a robot. Click the blue join button. You may also be asked to provide your email address before joining the room. Remember your name, image, video or voice may be visible to others in the live event. When done, click "Join" When it is time for the live event to start, the meeting host will admit you to the live Zoom meeting. You may need to periodically refresh the browser window to confirm if the host has admitted you. The presenters will control what slide you are viewing. You may submit questions online for the instructors to answer during the webinar by typing in the "Q&A" area. It is not necessary to wait until the question and answer periods to submit questions. At the end of the webinar you will be guided to our feedback form and links to additional resources, including the complete presentation. These links will remain active after the webinar.
