Using Quickscore 3.2.2 for Superfund Site Assessments

HRS Quickscore is a standalone application that assists users in scoring sites applying the Hazard Ranking System (HRS). In this course users will be introduced to Quickscore 3.2.2. The course will feature a live demonstration of Quickscore that will show users how to enter site level documentation, source data, and pathway information for each of the four HRS pathways: ground water, surface water, soil exposure and subsurface intrusion, and air. Attendees will learn how to enter information and score a hypothetical site in Quickscore 3.2.2.

If you have specific questions or suggestions related to Quickscore, please email the Quickscore Helpline (Quickscore@gdit.com) ahead of the training session and the instructors will address these during the training, as time allows. Attendees are encouraged to download and install Quickscore 3.2.2 (https://www.epa.gov/superfund/superfund-hazard-ranking-system-hrs-quickscore#download) prior to the webinar.

Rebecca Kent has 24 years experience providing policy and technical support to EPA’s Office of Land and Emergency Management (OLEM), specifically the Superfund site assessment program. Ms. Kent is a Senior Environmental Analyst and the Project Lead for EPA’s Quickscore Application. She has managed software updates, the maintenance of Quickscore and the Quickscore Helpline and its predecessors since 1999. M.s Kent is the lead trainer for Quickscore and has conducted more than 60 hours of training. She is well versed in the HRS and provides support to the EPA Regions in the form of technical assistance and quality assurance of HRS packages for sites proposed and promulgated on the National Priorities List.

Matthew Jefferson is an Environmental Engineer with the United States Environmental Protection Agency since 2003. Mr. Jefferson provides project management, strategic planning, site characterization technical support and training to EPA, contractors, and state, tribal, and federal partners. He was previously an EPA Superfund Remedial Project Manager with the San Francisco and Kansas City regional offices for 12 years. Mr. Jefferson has a Masters Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis and a Bachelors in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

Ms Balent is on the staff of the EPA's Technology Innovation and Field Services Division where she has worked to collect and disseminate hazardous waste remediation and characterization information since 2003. Ms Balent manages the Clean Up Information Network website and actively supports online communication and collaboration resources available to EPA. She formerly worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Engineering Division in the Buffalo District. Ms Balent was also a member of the SUNY-Buffalo Groundwater Research Group where she constructed and tested large scale models of groundwater flow. Ms Balent has also conducted research relating to the Great Lakes, environmental remediation, and brownfields re-development. She holds a Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from SUNY-Buffalo and a Master's degree in Information Technology from AIU.
